Issues that an underbite can cause and what happens when you do not get treated

If your teeth are properly aligned, your front teeth should overlap your bottom teeth a little bit. The problem comes in when the alignment is disrupted. This is what causes an underbite. There is also another condition known as an overbite that this should never be confused with an underbite. An underbite is a condition that affects less than ten percent of a population. Although it is not common, those people with the condition go through a lot. An underbite is a condition where the lower jaw protrudes beyond a person’s upper teeth. That means the bottom teeth sit in front of the upper teeth especially when one closes the mouth. Underbites can be mild or severe. Underbites are conditions known to cause many problems for the person suffering from the conditions.

Issues that an underbite cause

All the problems that are associated with underbites range from mild to severe. This will depend on the degree of an underbite. The complications emanating from underbites can affect both physical and mental health as well. Temporomandibular or chronic jaw pain is always the common side effect of underbites. Most of the time, your jaw will feel stuck or locked when you have an underbite. Because of that, you will inevitably experience a popping sensation. This is a condition that can cause jaw pain, dizziness, toothache, headaches, and earaches as well.  Many problems are always associated with an underbite. Here are some of them

  • Chronic mouth breathing
  • Speech issues
  • Sleep difficulties, apnea, and chronic snoring
  • Tooth decay
  • Chewing and eating difficulty
  • Halitosis and bacterial infections

Apart from many physical issues, there are other impacts of underbites associated with the psychological and mental health of a person. People who have such conditions might also suffer from low self-esteem. Their confidence might also be affected because of underbites.

What happens when you do not treat an underbite? If you are suffering from an underbite, you should consider correcting it right away. This is because many methods can be used to correct an underbite and it has worked for all those who went to seek help. Underbites will require forms of treatments even when they are not that severe. This is because no magic can happen for underbites to correct themselves. If you ignore an underbite, things might get worse for you. If you do not consider treatment, you will also experience further complications such as pain as well as difficulty in chewing. With time, these conditions might get worse. Even if you do not see any need to seek medical help as of now, as you age, the condition might worsen. You might experience wear and tear and that will be very painful for you. To avoid all that, you must consider getting treated right away. The earlier you consider getting treated, the better for you.
