Shroom tea is made up of edible mushrooms and water. It is either made up of psychedelic mushrooms or lingzhi mushrooms because both are easy to consume and also have several health benefits. There are many advantages you get just with one cup of mushroom tea like it boosts immunity, fights cancer, has anti-aging effects, reduces blood pressure, is rich in antioxidants, possesses anti-inflammatory properties, will energize your body, and is also a healthy alternative to caffeine.
Types of shroom tea
- Chaga – Chaga shrooms are also known as Inonotus obliquus and are grown on the bark of birch tress. They are black from the outside and vibrant orange from the inside. They are mainly used to boost the immune system and have antioxidants. The main chemical compound in Chaga shroom tea is betulinic acid. The tea has a mild taste and also has a slight taste of vanilla.
- Cordyceps – they are grown from the bodies of hosts which include ants and caterpillars because of which they are parasites in nature. Among the mushroom varieties, they are most bizarre and intriguing. Because of the life cycle of the mushroom, they are also known as zombie mushrooms. It has a similar taste to ground, cocoa powder which is not sweet. As this mushroom is earthy so it gives a nutty, savory, and slightly salty flavor.
- Lion’s Mane – this shroom is also called Old Man’s Beard and Tree Hedgehog. It is grown in both dead as well as decaying trees. They are grown in wild environments and are used to make traditional medicines. This mushroom is also good for brain health. It has a sweet and savory flavor. It also gives a meaty essence because of which it tastes like a lobster. If you add water to tea, then the meaty flavor is turned into a full-bodied flavor.
- Maitake – its botanical name is Grifola frondosa. They are grown on oak trees and their maximum weight can reach up to 100 pounds. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help in pain relief. It has a fruity, little spicy, and earthy taste.
- Reishi – they are grown on decaying hardwood trees and are also known as Lingzhi. They have a large umbrella structure with red tops. They have a higher concentration of antioxidants which helps in boosting white cells production. They have an earthy flavor and have a bitter and wood-like taste. If you want to balance the meaty flavor of this shroom tea, then add honey or almond milk which will give it a sweet taste.
How to make a shroom tea?
- Add a cup of water into a saucepan, and heat it until it gets to a boil.
- Break the shroom pieces and ground them. Now add those pieces into the saucepan.
- Now you have to add and stir the tea bag into the cup and keep it for 15 minutes.
- Add lemon juice, honey, and some pieces of ginger to another cup of boiling water.
- Brew two cups of the mixture together in the saucepan, and keep it for 12 minutes.
- Now strain the tea, and enjoy drinking it.
