What are the Various Types of Roof Replacement Materials?

There comes a time when roofs cannot be sustained anymore with the help of repairs and maintenance, and must be replaced to ensure the safety of homes and inhabitants. Know about some of the different types of roof materials that are used for many Roof Replacement Stockport projects today.

GRP Fiberglass Roof

This is a flat roof which is very strong, light in weight and does not need any hot flame at the time of setup. It is free of joints, can resist vandalism, is fetching in appearance and has long lifespan. It is friendly for DIY enthusiasts. However, it is not very flexible and is not perfect for roofs with large surface areas. It can also be slightly slippery in the initial stages.

Felt Roof

Such kind of flat roofing can be a wonderful option in case you are a home owner with a tight budget, and need a type of roofing that is durable, affordable in cost and can fit the size of your roof. However, it comes with some issues – given the fact that it is not appropriate for standard footfalls. Also, its installation requires the use of heat.

Asphalt Roof

It is another widespread option when it comes to the replacement of flat roofs. It is fit for roofs of most sizes, can last for a long time, happens to be strong in form and is priced affordably. But it is quite bulky in form and can only work well on roofs of a strong structure. Also, it is not DIY friendly or malleable.

Single ply membrane (PIB, TPO, PVC, TPE)

Such kind of roofing can be set up easily, as it is fire resistant, long lasting, can cover vast areas, is ideal on slopes, beautiful in appearance, flexible and light in weight. Keep in mind, however, that the costs of setting it up can be more than that of flat roof systems. This might not fit your purpose in case you are on a tight budget and cannot spend generously for your flat roof replacement job.

EPDM Rubber Roof

This kind of flat roofing is also widely popular as it is DIY friendly, flexible, light in weight and needs no use of heat or naked flames at the time of setup. The negatives of this are that it is unpleasant in appearance, tend to shrink over time and is also found to be unsuitable for complex detailing.
